Broken dreams
lay scattered
across my soul
leaving me with a feeling
of emptiness.
Fragments so tiny
I can't even remember
what they once were
And all I know
in the existence
that at one time
I called my life
Is that I can't stand
to see the pity
mirrored in your eyes

White Walls & Waxed Floors

The deep creases of time melt into what once was
a face of graceful beauty
Silver hair lay against the pillow
while sunken eyes watch the world pass by

From the oak dresser,
black and white pictures
in beautiful silver frames
of the woman she once was

And as I sit her up
and brush her silken hair
to take her to breakfast
in a room full of strangers

I think about the day
when it will be me
and wonder if I really want my sanity
in my golden years

Down the hall
and to the left
Sharing a room with a stranger.................

Today I caught
a glimpse
of the person
I used to be.
I caught myself smiling
for no reason, and realized
that I had thrown off
the shadows of the past.
Not forever, not for the day,
but for that moment
they were gone.
And now alone,
the demons claw their
way into my soul
and fill it with doubt
telling me
not to step forward
and if I do, it
will only make things
worse.
Like a cheap budget movie
over and over
drilling it into my head;
what I have will suffice.
Then I remember things you've
said
and I realize that this life
will not be the one
that I will lead
and in order to
cast away the demons
I must first step to
the future.
once again,
I catch a flash
of the person
from so long ago
and hope that I will
see her again
sometime very soon.
